Aminath Ramsha, an ENT doctor who worked at the Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), died on Thursday, after battling with cancer.
She died while seeking treatment from Bangkok, Thailand.
In addition to being a doctor, Ramsha had also been active in sports activities such as athletics and netball.
She was also a volunteer at the Cancer Society of Maldives (CSM).
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, in a post on X, shared a message of condolence, describing her as a hardworking and popular doctor.
“This county has lost a brilliant athlete who set an example in the sports arena; someone who spent day and night providing humanitarian services; a compassionate helper who encouraged the ill and the disabled,” he wrote.
In a post on Facebook, Juwariya Saeed, the chairperson of CSM, acknowledged Ramsha’s valuable contribution to the NGO since its inception, and her efforts to raise cancer awareness.
Ramsha had engaged in cancer awareness activities through the social audio app Clubhouse during the Covid-19 pandemic – back when the app rose to prominence.
Her mother had also died of cancer.
