State Electric Company (STELCO) announced on Thursday that it has decided to provide a discount on domestic electricity consumption during Ramadan.
In a post on X on Thursday evening, Hussain Fahmy, the managing director of STELCO, said the decision was made in line with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s earlier pledge to offer a discount on utility bills during the holy month.
The last week of Ramadan had fallen on the month of April. Therefore, the discount will also be provided for April’s bill.
Fahmy said that the recently issued bills will be resent to customers soon, after updating the numbers with the discount.
“I provide assurance that we remain committed to doing everything we can for the benefit of the Maldivian people, in line with the government’s efficient and compassionate policies,” he added.

Just ahead of Ramadan, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced his decision to offer a discount on domestic utility bills to ease the burden on households during the holy month. Both water and electricity was billed on average consumption during regular months.
However, a number of people have taken to social media to complain that March’s electricity bill remained high, despite the discount.
Fahmy previously attributed the high bill to the recent record warm temperatures.
