61 year old arrested for abusing a minor

Maldives Police Service on Thursday, has reported arresting a 61 year old individual suspected of abusing a 12 year old minor in a southern atoll island.

Police confirmed to media, that the case was reported last Sunday.

The authority added it arrested the prime suspect on Wednesday through a court order.

Court ordered the suspect to be held in remand during the investigation, when they were presented to the court for remand hearing.

While Police has not disclosed further details in the case, the authority is currently investigating the matter.

Child abuse cases are among the most reported crimes in the Maldives, and is treated as a serious offense requiring fast-tracked investigation.
