HDC cancels applications for Vinares apartments submitted in Nov

Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has cancelled applications submitted via the online portal for Vinares apartments in November last year.

Applications for unsold Vinares apartments, located in Hulhumale’ Phase II, opened on November 5. The online portal for applications faced high traffic, resulting in technical issues and prompting a pause in the sale of the units.

In a statement on Tuesday, HDC said it had cancelled the online applications submitted in November, in response to multiple complaints over the technical issues, which denied a number of prospective buyers the chance to submit applications.

HDC said that with respect to the unsold units at Vinares, priority will be given to people who made downpayments for housing under various social housing projects, which were later stalled for various reasons.

The Vinares apartments, built in 10 towers, has total 1,344 units. The apartments under the project were opened to registered residents of Male’ and people who have been residing in Male’ for at least 15 years.

The unsold units had sold out within 30 minutes when applications opened on November 5.

In February, the government reduced the price of the Vinares apartments, which dropped the monthly rent to an average MVR 4,200.
