Housing Development Corporation (HDC) on Wednesday, awarded the contract for the development of a smart and sustainable warehouse complex in Hulhumale'.
HDC signed with Rotime Engineering and Technology Co Limited for the development of this warehouse complex which aims to provide sufficient storage and warehousing solutions for local businesses.
Managing Director Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed signed the agreement on behalf of HDC, and Zhou Weidong, the Managing Director of Rotime signed on behalf of the contractor.
This contractor basic-financed initiative is mandated to be completed within two years, HDC said.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Fazul said the complex aims to address godown or warehouse shortages faced by local businesses; both small and medium.
He further emphasized the role this complex will play in elevating trade and commerce in the Maldives.
"We aim to complete the project in the next two years, but we intend to initiate the services prior to it. With these floor plans, we will begin pre-sale to businesses," Fazul commented.
Besides providing storage, the warehouses will feature adequate parking areas and solar panels as well.
Development of a warehouse complex to assist local businesses is a key pledge under President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's campaign manifesto.
