The Male’ city council has partnered with local non-governmental organizations to hold Eid al-Fitr festivities in the Maldivian capital, under the slogan “Magey Eid.”
The city council has partnered with two local NGOs for the celebrations; 14 Entertainment and City Kanmathi Sports and Recreation.
Eid al-Fitr celebrations will kick-off with the communal Eid prayer, after which the women’s development committee will distribute a special Eid breakfast pack at the Ekuveni stadium.
The festivities organized by 14 Entertainment will begin at 09:30 am at the Rasfannu Artificial Beach. People can enter the water fight by purchasing an MVR 195 t-shirt. They can also join additional games that offer prizes to winners.
The Maali parade and Bodumas parade kick-off at 04:00 pm from in front of the Olympus Cinema on Majeedhee Magu, and end at the junction of Artificial Beach-Majeedhee Magu. Even members of the general public can dress up as maali and join the parade.
“Those who wish to join can dress up as maali and come at 03:30 pm. We want to note that the one who dresses the most traditionally and is the best maali will win a prize,” said Saif Zahir, from 14 Entertainment.
Meanwhile, the Eid show featuring Equatic Vibe, 1438 Boduberu, and other artists, will be held at the Henveiru Artificial Beach from 08:30 pm to 11:30 pm. A fireworks show will be held at 10:00 pm.
Meanwhile, the festivities organized by City Kanmathi Sports and Recreation will kick off at 04:00 pm near the Maafannu Madrasa. It will feature traditional items such as the bandiya dance and kuru dhan’di jehun.
Male’ City Mayor Adam Azim said he hopes to empower local NGOs to organize such community engagement activities.
There will be a two-hour ban on vehicle movement in Male’ from 04:00 pm to 06:00 pm during Eid. Azim asked the public to cooperate with the ban, and ensure everyone can safely join in on the Eid festivities.
