The governments of Maldives and Japan, on Monday, signed four Exchange of Notes pertaining to the provision of USD 6 million in grant assistance to the Maldives.
The Exchange of Notes were signed during a special ceremony held at the Maldivian Foreign Ministry by Maldivian Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer and the Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives Takuechi Midori.
The details of the four Exchange of Notes are as below:
1) Exchange of Notes for provision of customs patrol craft based on the Economic Cooperation Grant Act of Japan.
2) Exchange of Notes for the grant of 260 million Japanese Yen (approximately USD 1.71 million) for implementation of the Project for the Enhancement of AbilIty in Maritime Safety and Security.
3) Exchange of Notes for the grant of 600 million Japanese Yen (approximately USD 3.96 million) for the provision of equipment for strengthening Maldives' national response capacity to high frequent natural hazards through community empowerment to the National Disaster Management Authority, under the Economic and Social Development Programme
4) Exchange of Notes for the grant of 56 million Japanese Yen (approximately USD 369,936) for the provision of equipment to support operations of patrol vessels to the Maldives Customs Service, under the Economic and Social Development Programme.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Minister Zameer extended gratitude for Japan's ongoing support and underscored the significance of this collaboration in advancing the socio-economic development of the Maldives. He also highlighted the crucial role played by Japan as one of the key development partners and reiterated Maldives’ commitment to furthering diplomatic relations between Maldives and Japan.
