A postal service has been introduced for Maldivian pilgrims in Saudi Arabia for Hajj or Umrah to transport goods they want to bring to the Maldives via Saudi Arabia Post.
Speaking at a press conference held by the Local Government Ministry on Sunday, Maldives Post Limited Managing Director Ahmed Shafeeg said an agreement was executed between Maldives Post and Saudi Post on Saturday for the purpose, adding both sides are presently undertaking all arrangements necessary to implement the agreement.
In this regard, goods worth up to 30 kilograms will be accommodated under this service, at a lower cost than commercial rates by airlines, said Shafeeg.
He added that Maldives Hajj Corporation will soon disclose the details of the location of postal outlets established at Makkah and Madinah for the provision of the service and how pilgrims can obtain the service.
Prior to this, pilgrims faced huge difficulties in transporting goods they wanted to bring back to the Maldives.
