National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) states the individuals who were moved to temporary shelters in the wake of a fire which broke out in a home in the Henveiru district of Male’ City this weekend still remain at the temporary shelters.

The fire broke out in an apartment on the first floor of H. Sungraze, located near the ADK Hospital, at around 06:10 pm on Saturday.

NDMA confirmed to Sun that the four individuals who were moved to temporary shelters following the fire remain in the temporary shelters, adding arrangements have been made for them to be housed at the temporary shelters for an additional five days.

They have previously identified the four individuals as a Maldivian woman and her child, and two foreign nationals.

Saturday’s fire was controlled by firefighters from the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) in under 13 minutes.

The incident resulted in minor injuries to three people; an elderly man and woman who suffered smoke inhalation, and a male expatriate worker who tripped and injured his leg while trying to escape the blaze.

No one was injured from the fire itself.

According to the MNDF, the fire resulted from a kitchen oven overheating.
