Tourist arrivals top 420,000; up by 16.9%

Tourist arrivals to the Maldives so far this year has topped 420,000, according to the latest information released by the Tourism Ministry.

According to the records, Maldives registered 423,863 visitors, as of March 3. This is an increase of 16.9 percent compared to the same period last year.

The country recorded over 7,000 tourist arrivals on Sunday alone.

The top source market for tourist arrivals to Maldives is China, with over 54,000. Russia is placed second with over 41,000 arrivals, while Italy is third, with over 39,000 arrivals.

Maldives had recorded over 10,000 visitors on February 11 – breaking the record for the highest single-day tourist arrivals.

The country was crowned the World’s Leading Destination for the fourth year running at the 2023 World Travel Awards.

It recorded 1.8 million arrivals last year, and is eying a record 2 million visitors this year.
