Maldives Police Service on Sunday, March 03, 2024, revealed Road Development Corporation (RDC) had transferred a total of MVR 11 million to the bank account of one of its employees.

During the press conference held by the Police Economic Crime Department and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Sunday afternoon, Acting Head of Crime Investigation Command, Chief Superintendent Ahmed Nafiz said that though police learned monies of RDC had been credited into the personal bank accounts of the corporation's employees unlawfully, the authorities have not yet discovered the exact nature of these transactions.

Nafiz further said that the monies were transferred from the personal accounts of RDC employees to the companies owned by senior government officials or their personal accounts as well. These transactions included 216 transfers into a single bank account; which is actually related to several different individuals.

He added that the details of these individuals need to be acquired seperately for the investigation.

"What we are saying is that from the documents we have collected so far, this is what we have gathered about the investigation. RDC has transferred monies to three of its employees, with MVR 11 million transferred to one individual and MVR 2 million each to the rest of the two individuals. We are looking into these transactions," the Head Superintendent of Police, Economic Crime Department, Abdulla Rasheed detailed.

He also revealed that the transactions occurred between 2018 and September 2022.

Earlier on July 15, 2023, police revealed that the monies from RDC's main account was transferred to a manager-level employee of the company.

In November last year, police entered RDC premises for inspection through a court order.

The corporation denied the allegations placed against it back then.
