Judges’ Board to be set up to advise JSC on judicial administrative policies

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has decided to establish a judges’ board to advise the commission in formulating administrative policies for the courts.

In a statement on Monday, JSC said the move is aimed at increasing the engagement of judges, and ensuring that judicial administrative polices are transparent and formulated following consultation with judges.

The board will have nine members. They are:

  • Chief Justice
  • President of JSC
  • Chief Judge of High Court
  • Supreme Court’s representative in JSC
  • High Court’s representative in JSC
  • Lower courts’ representative in JSC
  • A member appointed by the Chief Justice from among chief judges of superior courts
  • A member appointed by the Chief Justice from among magistrates
  • Chief Judicial Administrator

JSC added that the members appointed by the Chief Justice from among chief judges of superior courts and from among magistrates will change on an annual basis.
