Young fisherman injured in shark attack

A young Maldivian fisherman has been injured in a shark attack in northern Maldives.

The 28-year-old man, part of a crew of a boat from F. Feeali, had been fishing for grouper in HA. Atoll when he was attacked by a shark.

The incident took place on Tuesday morning.

The injured fisherman was initially treated at the HA. Hoarafushi Health Center, before he was transferred to the Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital.

A spokesperson from the hospital said the fisherman has a six-centimeter shark bite in his left hand.

He was transferred from the health center because he would not stop bleeding from the wound, added the spokesperson.

He is currently under observation.
