Maldives Qualifications Authority (MQA) has warned employers and higher educational institutes over the circulation of fake certificates.

MQA, in a statement, said they ceased issuing “recognition” stamp for certificates awarded by registered higher educational institutions in the Maldives for completion of education and training programs in 2016.

However, they detailed having taken note of certificates that contained a fake “recognition” stamp of MQA with the signature of its staff.

MQA described such acts as an infringement of the rights of its staff and as something that would raise concern among the public regarding the authority’s undertaking to ensure the standard of higher education.

Condemning the act in harsh terms, MQA said efforts have been initiated to submit the case for investigation to the relevant authorities.

MQA previously said they ceased the issuance of the stamp in question as education and training programs offered by registered higher educational institutions in the Maldives are authorized by the authority while adhering to the national framework on qualification.
