Naeema’s murder: Trial information to be accessible on PG website

Naeema Moosa, 62, Annaarumaage, N. Manadhoo.

Prosecutor General’s Office (PG Office) has decided to make information with respect to the trial of the murder of a middle-aged woman found killed in her home in N. Manadhoo in April 2023 accessible through the office’s website.

Naeema Moosa, 62, was found stabbed to death in her bedroom at around 06:30 pm April 7, 2023.

PG Office, in a statement on Wednesday, attributed their decision to make the information accessible as the case involved public interest.

As per the office, updates on cases involving public interest are publicized on the office’s website to eliminate the need to call the office to clarify information regarding such cases.

In this regard, updates on Naeema’s murder trial will be available on PG Office’s website’s “Aanmu Shaugu” section.

Information that is disclosed in the section includes the details of the incident, suspects charged, the charges, the progress of the trial, and the date of the next hearing, if scheduled.

PG Office said they will make a decision on including more information based on feedback received from the public.

Naeema’s murder trial is set to commence at the Criminal Court on Thursday.

Police sought charges against three suspects in the case:

  • Hassan Favaz, 21
  • Abdul Wahid Rifas, 21
  • Ahzam Abdul Shukoor, 23

Employed as a street sweeper by the local council, Naeema had lived alone in her home. She was last seen on April 5, 2023, and was report missing by her family on April 7, 2023. The police had to break open her bedroom door, and found her lying dead on the floor in a pool of blood.
