Male’ City Council, on Tuesday, has announced that over 600 employees from Housing Development Corporation (HDC) will be shifted to the council.
The council’s Spokesperson Aminath Shathufa told Sun on Tuesday that the change was being made in light of the shift of municipal services of Hulhumale’ from HDC to Male’ City Council.
She detailed that the HDC staff being shifted to Male’ City Council are staff tasked with municipal services.
While the Human Resource Department is presently undertaking the necessary work related to the shift – Shathufa said the total number of staff being shifted is unclear, adding it would nevertheless exceed 600.
The transfer of all municipal services to the city council had been one of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s electoral pledges – something which he promised to deliver on within the first 100 days in office.
In this trajectory, Finance Ministry, HDC and Male’ City Council signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to transfer the municipal services provided by HDC in Hulhumale’ to the Male’ City Council on January 4th.
Under the MoU, HDC will cease the provision of municipal services provided under the Decentralization Act within one month.
