57 people from eight Male’ homes relocated to temporary shelter following flooding

National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) states 57 people from eight homes in Male’ City have been provided temporary shelter amid torrential downpour that has battered the capital since Friday morning.

NDMA, in a post on X on Friday night, said they have received distress calls seeking assistance from 144 homes as of present.

They added that assistance has been provided to 132 homes, while sandbags have been stacked at the entrance of 91 homes to prevent flood water from sweeping in.

As per the authority, damages to property following torrential rain have also been reported from islands including Male’; Th. Guraidhoo, Th. Dhiyamgili, L. Maamendhoo and Dh. Kudahuvadhoo.

However, NDMA said the most damage was reported from Male’ homes.
