ID card no longer required when collecting passport

Maldives Immigration announced on Wednesday that the national ID card is no longer a mandatory document when collecting the passport.

In a statement on Wednesday evening, Immigration said that the Controller General of Immigration Mohamed Sham’an made the decision to improve the convenience of the services provided by the agency, in line with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s vision to improve the convenience of public services as much as possible.

According to Immigration, owners will not be required to present their ID card when collecting their electronic passport, non-electric passport or emergency passport.

Meanwhile, parents of children under the age of 18 just need a picture of their ID card when coming to collect the passport.

And if the owner is sending a proxy to collect the passport due to a permissible reason, they will need to write the serial number of the proxy’s ID card in the agreement letter, and show a picture of their ID card when collecting the passport.

Earlier this month, Immigration doubled the speed of delivery of passports to its regional offices in Addu City, Fuvahmulah City, Kulhudhuffushi City, and Thinadhoo City.

Maldives Immigration said it is committed to listening to the concerns raised by the public and improving the efficiency and convenience of its services.
