Parliament requests MNDF to ensure MP Shifau’s safety

The parliament has requested Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) to ensure the safety of Ihavandhoo MP Mohamed Shifau.

The Parliament, on Tuesday, filed a case with the Maldives Police Service after Shifau received death threats via social media.

In a statement earlier today, the Parliament condemned the death threat against Shifau in the harshest terms. They also said they have requested MNDF to ensure the safety and protection of the parliamentarian.

The death threat against Shifau has also been strongly condemned by his party, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP). The party, in a statement, stressed that the law mandates security and protection for parliamentarians.
