Parliament on Tuesday has decided against changing seating arrangements of the parliament floor to be based political party-wise as proposed by the General Purpose Committee.

At present, parliamentarians are seated constituency-wise, in the order of the Dhivehi alphabet.

General Purpose Committee, which reviewed the issue, decided to change the seating arrangement of the parliament floor, to be based political party-wise.

Their report, stipulating the same, was forwarded to the floor on October 4, 2020. A vote was only asked regarding the report at Tuesday’s parliamentary sitting.

42 out of the 44 parliamentarians who participated in the vote decided against changing the current seating arrangement.

Therefore, no changes will be made to the seating arrangement of the parliament.
