Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) states it is engaged in talks with the Adhaalath Party (AP) for a potential partnership for upcoming elections.

MDP confirmed the talks in a statement on Tuesday.

According to the main opposition party, the two parties have decided to hold additional talks to identify areas of cooperation for the upcoming elections.

Neither party has provided details regarding Tuesday’s talks.

AP has been aligned with the MDP since 2015. It remained a coalition partner to MDP until the end of the recent MDP administration last month.

AP’s leader, Imran Abdulla served in the cabinet during the former administration as home minister.

The party had also partnered with MDP during both rounds of the recent presidential election, which it lost of People’s National Congress (PNC).
