A lawmaker from the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has submitted a resolution, seeking a public inquiry to investigate the allegations that the policies implemented by the MDP administration endangered Maldives’ national security.

The resolution, submitted by North Thinadhoo MP Abdul Mughnee, was read during the parliamentary sitting on Tuesday morning.

The decision to seek a public inquiry was made during the MDP national council meeting in AA. Ukulhas last week.

In his resolution, Mughnee said that the allegations that the MDP administration’s policies, decisions and agreements threatened national security had prompted deep concern from the public, with many demanding clarifications of the matter.

The MDP is seeking a public inquiry to specific allegations; the allegation that there were thousands of Indian soldiers stationed in the Maldives plotting to violate the country’s independence and sovereignty; the allegation that the administration sold off part of Maldives’ maritime territory; and the allegations of state-sponsored corruption.
