e-Gate service resumed after COVID-19 pandemic

Maldives Immigration, on Monday, has resumed e-Gate service, that had been halted during the COVID-19 pandemic, in order to facilitate easements for local passengers.

Immigration, in a post on X, said some services have been modernized as they reopen the e-Gate.

The post also detailed how to use the e-Gate. In this regard, passengers, after approaching the e-Gate, will first have to use the screen to scan the barcode from their boarding pass. Once a successful reading is indicated on the screen, they will have to scan the bio-data page of their passport next. 

Once the successful reading of the passport is indicated on the screen, the last step will be to activate the gate via fingerprint, registered with Immigration during the collection of the passport.

Immigration states passengers will have a seamless traveling experience with the resumption of the e-Gate service.

e-Gate service was first introduced in the Maldives in January 2016.

It was halted the during the COVID-19 pandemic which triggered travel restrictions.

The new easement comes after the Immigration, a week ago, discontinued travel declaration form for locals traveling abroad and arriving in the Maldives
