V. Felidhoo Council, on Thursday, has revoked its controversial decision to deny services to individuals and their families who have outstanding payments to the council.

Felidhoo Council’s decision sparked concerns from the Local Government Authority (LGA), which, on Sunday, stressed that decisions and regulations formulated by councils must not infringe on the constitutional rights of any citizen.
Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM), underscoring that rights and freedoms guaranteed by the constitution cannot be constricted in any way, also called on the council to revoke their decision.
Felidhoo Council, in an announcement on Thursday, said they have revoked their earlier decision to deny services to individuals and their families who have outstanding payments to the council.
In Thursday’s announcement, the council also notified of their decision to publicize the names of the individuals if they have still failed to make the payment after granting three-month period.
