31 schools including schools from 7 atolls participated in this year's Dhiraagu Road Race

Dhiraagu Road Race, which was held last month, is special as it is not an event focused just towards adults. The annual event is one of the events in the country receiving huge support from students. 

31 schools registered for the race while 576 students from 25 schools from schools in Male' and students from 7 schools around the country participated. This is certainly proof of the popularity of the race among the students.

The schools from atolls that participated in the race were:

• Gn Atoll Education Centre
• Mohamed Gasim Preschool
• Mohamed Jamaluddin School
• Afeefuddin School
• Addu High School
• Irushadhiyya School
• Maradhoo School

Winners were also selected in the 5K of school children in two categories; over 13 and under 13, girls and boys. 

The race was the first road race in Maldives and the only international race that is annually held in the country. The road race started on the morning of the 27th of last month and was held at Central Park in Hulhumale with more than 4,000 runners.

The Dhiraagu Road Race is a World Athletics Certified Race Route and is listed on the World Running Calendar by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS). Therefore, this is a great opportunity for professional athletes who want to improve their running career to get international timing.

The latest iteration of Dhiraagu Road Race even introduced a brand-new half marathon. In addition to the half marathon, as in previous years, this year's road race also featured 5K and 10K categories.

The 14th edition of the road race is also dedicated to child safety. 12 NGOs that fit this theme participated in this race.

Proceeds from the special race kit purchased by the runners will be donated to the road race's endorsed children's NGOs. Dhiraagu will also donate a total of MVR 200,000 to the five associations selected by the most runners.
