Male’ City councilman Ibrahim Shujau has announced his candidacy for next year’s parliamentary elections.
In a post on X on Saturday morning, Shujau, the deputy leader of People’s National Congress (PNC), said he is contesting for the Baarah parliamentary seat.
Shujau had served as the parliamentary representative for the Baarah constituency from 2014 to 2019. But he lost the bid to defend the seat in 2019, losing the election to Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s Ahmed Abdulla.
In 2021, Shujau ran in the Male’ City Council elections, and won the Hulhumale’ seat by a landslide.
In Saturday’s post announcing his candidacy for next year’s parliamentary elections, Shujau asked for support from the constituents of Baarah.
Shujau is a top member of the PNC, which won the recent Maldivian presidential election.
President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, the PNC leader and Male’ City Mayor, will take office on November 17.
Several incumbent Male’ City councilors have announced plans to run in next year’s parliamentary elections.
