The Civil Court has ordered the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) to pay its outstanding debt of MVR 500,000 to Beehive Hotels Pvt Ltd within one year.
According to the sentence, FAM owe Beehive Hotels USD 32,426. That’s MVR 498,712 in local currency.
The court said FAM had not complied with the agreement in the ongoing transaction between FAM and Beehive Hotels. The documents submitted by both parties also show that the money was not paid in accordance with the agreement.
According to the sentence, FAM asked the court to let them pay the money within one year due to the deteriorating financial situation of the agency.
Therefore, the court ordered FAM to pay the amount of MVR 500,000 in installments across 12 months before the 10th day of each month.
FAM officials are being heavily accused of corruption. Police have recently raided the FAM House on the orders of the prosecutor. Police also seized some items from the premises for the investigation.
FAM has previously said that although the agency is currently facing financial difficulties, no one belonging to the agency has embezzled its assets and money.
They also said that the management of the agency will face all allegations of such an act head on for the sake of football. FAM further said they would not hesitate to prove to its members and the people of Maldives that it had not committed any act or transaction outside the legal framework.
