The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has expressed concern after the Parliament failed to schedule work on the supplementary budget in the agenda for Wednesday’s sitting.
MDP’s parliamentary group leader Mohamed Aslam told Sun that according to the Parliament’s secretary-general Fathimath Niusha, the Finance Ministry failed to submit some of the documents needed to schedule the work for Wednesday.
“But when I inquired, the Finance Ministry said they submitted all documents,” he said.
Aslam, the parliamentary representative for North Hithadhoo, said that he has asked both Niusha and Deputy Speaker Eva Abdulla to schedule the work.
Aslam accused them of misusing their power to determine the Parliament’s agenda.
“A task shouldn’t be removed from the agenda, after having set it in the agenda,” he said.
Niusha was not immediately available for comment regarding the allegation.
The work on the supplementary agenda was set in the agenda for Tuesday’s sitting. However, the Parliament was unable to hold the sitting due to lack of quorum.
