80 percent of the work on the Maldives-funded mosque in Palestine is complete, states the International Aid Campaign (IAC).

Masjid Al-Quddus is located in Tuffah, in eastern Gaza.

It is the first mosque in Palestine being built with aid from the Maldives.

IAC announced on Sunday that the concrete work on the mosque is now done.

The three-floor mosque will have the capacity to accommodate up to 1,100 worshippers.

IAC said that a lot of the work on the mosque had been complete before the current humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

The non-profit said that while the area where the mosque is located has been declared a danger due to constant Israeli bombardments, it has not suffered any damage, as of Saturday.

Two weeks into the conflict with Palestinian group Hamas, Israel's bombardment and blockade of Gaza has continued, with over one million people displaced.

The fighting began on October 7, when Hamas initiated Operation Al Aqsa Flood, a multi-pronged surprise attack that included a barrage of rocket launches and infiltrations into Israel by land, sea, and air.

It said the incursion was in retaliation for the storming of the Al Aqsa Mosque, and increased violence by Israeli settlers.

The Israeli military then launched Operation Swords of Iron against Hamas targets in Gaza.

Over 4,600 Palestinians have been killed, and over 14,000 more wounded in Israeli airstrikes on Gaza.

Israel’s response has extended into cutting water and electricity supplies to Gaza, further worsening the living conditions in an area that has endured a crippling siege since 2007.
