Maldives Police Service says they have sent 68 caution notices on Sunday alone, for driving violations on Sinamale’ Bridge.

Police told Sun that the caution messages were sent between 7:30am and 3:30pm on Sunday, for exceeding the approved speed limit.

In a statement last Wednesday, Police said they will begin sending caution notices to owners of vehicles identified speeding or shifting lanes in violation of the stipulated regulations starting next week.

In this regard, the Police said that the caution notices will be sent through text messages to the registered owner of the vehicle, which shall specify their violations, for example, if a speeding incident, the specific speed the vehicle was driven.

Police said the violations will be identified through speed cameras installed at the bridge.

They noted that the caution notices will include no external links.

Police have begun the initiative after dangerous accidents have taken place on Sinamale’ Bridge and the highway; most of which are a result of losing control of the vehicle due to speeding or amidst overtaking.
