The police have raised their alert level to the highest level ahead of the presidential election runoff.
Police said they upgraded their alert level on Thursday.
It will remain in place until the voting ends and the results are announced, said the police.
The police have asked the public to follow instructs of the police officers out on patrol in the streets, to follow traffic regulations, and opt for public transport in order to reduce congestion.
The police also asked people to pay attention to children and pedestrians, and to report anything suspicious to the police.
Police have been deployed to islands across Maldives under the Operation Blue Wave – launched in conjunction with the election.
