The Elections Commission (EC) has released the final list of eligible voters for the second round of voting in the presidential election.

According to the list 409 more people are eligible to vote in the second round – compared to the first round on September 9.

282,395 people were eligible to vote in the first round.

With the additional eligible voters, the figure now stands at 282,804. This includes 144,410 female voters and 138,394 male voters.

EC had previously estimated that 408 people who turned 18 after September 9 would need to be added to the voter’s list. The commission said that it added one additional voter in response to a complaint to the tentative voter’s list.

42,867 voters had applied to re-register for the first round of voting, and 50,047 voters applied to re-register for the second round. 38,763 applications were approved, while the remaining 11,284 applications were rejected.

EC has made certain changes for the second round of voting scheduled for September 30, including adding 12 ballot boxes, raising the total ballot boxes to 586.

The election runoff will see opposition PPM-PNC’s presidential candidate Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, who won 46 percent of votes in the first round, face off against MDP’s Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, the incumbent president, who won 39 percent.
