84 homes damaged in rain this month

National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has reported damage to 84 homes in four islands across the Maldives as south-west monsoon’s rain battered the nation throughout September.

As per a tweet by NDMA on Monday morning, 66 homes in Lh. Kurendhoo, 15 homes in AA. Ukulhas, one home in AA. Feridhoo and two homes in Addu City’s Feydhoo were damaged during heavy rain and flooding.

They detailed that the damages to each house have been calculated as of present – while efforts are underway to provide aid to the affected residents of those homes.

As heavy rain battered different regions of the Maldivian nation throughout September – some islands reported flooding and wave surges.

Kurendhoo, where damages to 66 homes have been reported, saw the worst-ever floods at the island to date last week.

Meanwhile, Male’ City recorded non-stop rain for an extended period of time on last week’s Sunday during which water leaked inside Family Court from the roof prompting the operations of the court to be temporarily moved to Justice Building.

However, the court shifted its operation back to the original building two days later, on Tuesday.

Maldives Metrological Service has issued a white alert for heavy rain today as well; from Haa Alifu Atoll to Faafu Atoll.
