President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has commenced an everyday door-to-door campaign in Male’ City to span over the remaining days for the runoff of the presidential election.
The incumbent president kicked off the campaign event on Sunday by visiting some homes in Maafannu district and Mahchangolhi district.
Main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) said Male’ area will be the president’s campaign focus for the runoff – with door-to-door visits lined up for every evening.
His wife, First Lady Fazna Ahmed is also undertaking door-to-door visits in the Male’ area separately.
Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, the PPM-PNC candidate, secured the highest votes, with 46 percent, meaning 101,613 votes, in the first round. His closest competitor, main ruling MDP’s Solih, the incumbent president, won 39 percent, meaning 86,161 votes.
President Solih, following his loss in the first round, has expressed he can still secure the landslide win in the runoff by identifying and addressing the issues faced in the first round.
The runoff is slated for September 30th.
