Maldives National Party’s (MNP) presidential candidate, Mohamed Nazim, said last night that if he is elected, he will join the airport in GDh. Maavarulu to Gadhdhoo with a bridge.

While both islands are in the same lagoon, there are 431 km between them.

Speaking at a campaign rally held at Gadhdhoo last night, Nazim said that Gadhdhoo cannot be developed further unless Maavarulu Airport is also developed and joined with Gadhdhoo. He also said that he will increase flight operations at Maavurulu Airport.

“City hotels will be built there. And Maavarulu Airport and Gadhdhoo will be connected by a causeway bridge. Unless this happens we cannot bring development to you,” Nazim said.

Full development will come to Maldives if it is connected by a good transportation system, he said. Nazim also said changes need to be made to the Maavarulu airport developed near Gaddu.

Nazim said Maldives is not developing at its best and he will bring about major economic changes under his rule.

“I believe that the benefits to the whole region are less than the development of individual villages. Therefore my plan is to bring development to GA. GDh. Gn. and S. atoll together,” he said.

Noting that the people of Gadhdhoo have always had a dream, Nazim said they have waited a long time for that dream to become a reality. While the residents of the village are farmers and fishermen their dreams have not come true, he said.

“I believe that this large population and land area can be further developed and expanded by doing different things,” Nazim said.

He also said that it is not the policy of MNP to do things by gathering everyone in the Male’.
