President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and his coalition partners received a warm welcome from a large crowd of supporters during their visit to GDh. Thinadhoo on Wednesday.
Thinadhoo is the last stop in the president’s tour of GDh. Atoll. He is set to launch RTL high-speech ferry service in the atoll, and meet MDP members there.
People formed a long line from one end of the harbor to the other, as they awaited the president’s arrival.
It took one-and-a-half hours to shake the hands of everyone waiting.
“The reason we want to re-elect President Ibu is clear if you look at this island, if you look at this atoll, and if you look at this country. This doesn’t need explaining,” said a young man waiting in line.
The sentiment wasn’t shared just by the island’s youth, but also the older age group.
“There are some major projects running in Thinadhoo during this administration. We want an MDP administration, an Ibu administration again, for the benefit of all,” said one man.
“We haven’t experienced anything like this in our lifetime. We are witnessing the assistance provided to students, and the positive changes to transport and healthcare services,” said another local waiting in line.
Chants of “Raees Ibu hovaanee eke burun” which translates to “we will elect President Ibu in one round” filled the air.
