Maafaru Councilor Athoof joins MDA

Member of N. Maafanu Council Athoof Abdulla presents membership form after signing for Maldives Development Alliance (MDA).

Member of N. Maafanu Council Athoof Abdulla has signed for Maldives Development Alliance (MDA).

He presented his membership form to MDA’s Council Member Mohamed Abbas on Thursday.

Athoof was elected to Maafaru Council on main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s ticket. He left MDP and joined Jumhoory Party earlier on Thursday, only to leave the party in mere hours to join to MDA.

Speaking to Sun, Athoof said he decided to leave JP for MDA as he can truly acknowledge the things the party’s leader, Ahmed Siyam Mohamed, has done for the development of the Noonu Atoll in addition to Maafaru, and the island’s development and education. He added that there was hope behind Siyam.

Athoof also said he will undertake all efforts to ensure President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih wins this year’s presidential election in the first round in his capacity as a member of MDA.

“Left Qasim to rally behind Siyam as he is a kindhearted, proactive and an extremely intelligent individual. There is no doubt President Solih will receive majority from Noonu Atoll with Siyam,” he added.

Athoof said another reason he left Jumhoory Party as to the fact that such a small party cannot win an election if contesting independently.

Alongside Athoof, Maafaru Council comprises of two members of MDP and one member from The Democrats.
