MNP’s Male’ plan: A ‘happiness city’ in Phase II

Maldives National Party (MNP)’s presidential candidate, Dhangethi MP Colonel (Retired) Mohamed Nazim has included the development of a ‘happiness city’ in Hulhumale’ Phase II as part of his vision for the Greater Male’ Area.

The plan launched by the party last night comprises of 16 main components. In addition to the development of the happiness city, the plan also includes the introduction of various types of tourism, monorail and the development of a monorail.

As per the plan, the happiness city includes a surfing point, and a facility for indoor sports such as bowling where local products can be sold. MNP states this will pave the way for cultural tourism.

The plan also includes modernizing the fishermen’s market and local market in addition to upgrading the atoll shops’ row to a shopping centre.

Apart from the aquarium mall, similar to that in Dubai, the plan also includes the development of a technology park and a theme park. A mega-housing project is also included in the plan in addition to redesigning the Male’ Industrial Village.

Speaking after the launching the plan last night, Nazim said Male’ area being developed without a proper plan to date is the reason behind the various social issues in the region.

“Thereby, I formulated a development plan for Male’ after identifying the major issues in the region, with a vision of facilitating easements for the people,” he said.

Nazim stressed that lack of housing was not the only issue faced in Male’ region.

“There has been no permanent and hopeful solution. Nevertheless, my ideas are very different. As I believe, Male’ is need of a comprehensive plan for eliminated crowding and housing issues produces health and social issues,” he said.

Nazim also announced the intention to establish an MVR 1 million fund for low-income individuals. In this regard, registration for the fund has now been opened.
