President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, expressing he was concerned over the imprisonment of opposition leader, former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom, stressed there was nothing he can do about it, citing that Yameen’s case is in judicial process.

Speaking at a campaign event in AA. Rasdhoo – President Solih said one of the main concerns raised by the opposition PPM-PNC coalition was regarding Yameen’s imprisonment.

“Their concern is Yameen’s imprisonment. I am also concerned,” he said.

Nevertheless, President Solih stressed there was nothing he can do with respect to the matter despite his concerns, as the case is proceeding in a judicial court.

“Do not force me to interfere with that or influence it. I will not do that,” he added.

President Solih also criticized PPM for not having either a manifesto or a goal.

“Always talking about putting someone in jail. That if we get elected, someone will be in jail,” he said.

Speaking further, President Solih said Rasdhoo residents played an integral role in MDP’s reformative works.

He added that one should vote in the presidential election after casting aside political ideologies and instead carefully considering the prospective positive changes to the nation and one’s self.

The presidential candidate of the main ruling party also urged against anything that may facilitate chances for PPM, while voting.

“You have to think about what will happen if PPM wins while making a decision with respect to the upcoming presidential elections,” he said.

His pledges for Rasdhoo in a second term include:

  • Development of an office complex
  • Development of an indoor sports complex
  • Development of a multipurpose hall and playground at the school
  • Development of a swimming track
  • Development of a football stadium
  • Providing land from nearby the island following discussions with the council
