President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih says N. Maafaru will see transformative changes in his next term, with the project underway to further upgrade the island’s airport.
He said that the Maafaru International Airport is the key to the development of the entire N. Atoll.
President Solih said that the contractor of the airport development project, which he said was a company linked to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai, met with his administration and expressed interest in the airport’s further development.
He said that his administration has agreed to the proposal.
“Once the project is complete, the airport will have the longest runway in Maldives. They have a vision. They have shared everything with us,” he said.
He said the airport will host direct flights from Europe, and promised to run “mega tourism projects.”
“We have allocated several islands to them. You will witness all this begin in this region soon,” he said.
He also announced that Maldivian’s seaplane services will launch to Maafaru soon.
President Solih promised to run several projects in Maafaru if re-elected for a second term. This includes:
President Solih said the projects will increase the island’s population, as it will create job opportunities and introduce new services.
