Tourism Minister Dr. Abdulla Mausoom, on Monday, left Jumhoory Party (JP).

Mausoom, in a tweet, said he resigned from JP at 4:00pm this evening. He joined the political party headed by Qasim Ibrahim in May 2014.

In his tweet, Mausoom thanked Qasim, the party’s leadership and its members for the close relationship they maintained with him throughout his time with the party.

Mausoom was appointed Tourism Minister in a slot allocated to JP.

Although his resignation from the party only comes now, he endorsed main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s presidential candidate, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih for the upcoming presidential elections four months earlier.

Qasim had denied President Solih’s invitation to form a coalition for the election.
