The Criminal Court has issued an order find out the identity of ‘Hassan Kurusee’, an anonymous Twitter account famous for making anti-government tweets.
The account has been accusing top government officials, including the president, of corruption and embezzlement.
The court order was issued in response to a petition filed by the police.
A top police official told Sun the agency is working on finding out the identity of the person behind the anonymous account.
The police will need to make a formal request with Twitter.
‘Hassan Kurusee’ had previously been though to be former Maldivian president Mohamed Nasheed, especially after he acknowledged ‘Alex Ahmed’ as his unofficial account.
But in April, Nasheed said that the anonymous account was causing him harm, and lodged a police complaint to find out the person behind the account.
The account has over 12,000 followers.
