President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has accused previous administration of sidelining smaller islands due to lack of perceived political gain, saying that his administration had tried to change that culture.
In a campaign rally in Sh. Feevah on Tuesday, the president said that Feevah, too, had been sidelined by previous administrations.
He said that previous administrations had largely ignored less populated islands due to lack of perceived political gain, and that the few pledges that are made to the islands went unfulfilled.
“The goal of our administration was to change this. I made essential services that Maldivian citizens anywhere have the right to access as something the government must provide equally for all,” he said.
The president said that no projects had been run in Feevah during the previous MDP administration, and only two during the PPM administration.
He said that that was the reason why his administration ran projects to establish essential services in the island.
“Therefore, we ran 11 projects in this island, that is including during the Covid pandemic,” he said.
