The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has concluded that the accusations against Justice Mahaz Ali Zahir of possible misconduct, based on the allegation he accepted a meal from former Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom were false.

An official from JSC who spoke with Sun stated that it has been proven that the meal in questions was in fact bought by the justice himself. Hence, further investigations were dropped, and it was concluded that there was no diciplinary issue of Justice Mahaz.

JSC opened an investigation into this during December 2022.

At the time, Justice Mahaz released a statement, maintaining that he has not acted in a manner that violates any of the codes that justices need to adhere to.

He stated that the meal in question was lunch he bought for himself and other justices on November 30, 2021 – the day the Supreme Court acquitted Yameen of a previous conviction for money laundering.

Justice Mahaz had presided over the three-justice bench which heard the appeal.
