Women and Democracy’s founder Safaath Zahir has been appointed to represent Asia in the Commonwealth Foundation’s Civil Society Advisory Governors.
Applications for governors to represent five Commonwealth regions – Africa, Asia, Caribbean, and Americas, Pacific and Europe – on the Civil Society Advisory of Commonwealth Foundation opened on February 5th.
Safaath was approved for the post by the Foundation’s Board of Governors from over 600 applicants from Asia. She was appointed for a two-year term.
The newly appointed governors will play a critical role not only in advising on the Foundation’s continuous improvement but also in contributing to the development of the program for the next Commonwealth People’s Forum that will be held in Samoa in 2024.
Safaath, commenting on her appointment, expressed her commitment to work towards the advancement and prosperity of Asian civil societies in her capacity in such an integral post to achieve the Commonwealth’s goals and uphold human rights.
She underscored her aim is to facilitate more opportunities for civil societies from the Asia region and advocate their interests.
Safaath presently serves as the communication strategist at the Foreign Ministry.
