Planning Ministry has signed an agreement with Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA) to undertake a survey prerequisite to upgrading the capital Male’ City’s storm drainage and the surrounding sea wall.

The agreement was signed during a special ceremony held at the Planning Ministry on Thursday by Director General Shana Farooq and Preparatory Survey Team’s Leader Tsukizoi Megumi. The project will be carried out under grant assistance from the Japanese government.

Although the agreement has been signed, Planning Ministry did not disclose any further details regarding the project.

The seawall around Male’ City was built in 1990, under a grant assistance from the Japanese government.

JICA has previously undertaken a survey regarding the seawall, from 1991 to 1992. A similar agreement was executed with JICA back in October last year for such a survey.
