Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed states that his response to the no-confidence motion against him is the same as the response of Bodu Thakurufaanu when Andre Andreas (Andhiri Andhirin), who ruled Maldives on behalf of the Portuguese, ordered Viyazor, his chief in HA. Baarah, to behead him.

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has submitted a no-confidence motion against the party’s leader with the endorsement of 54 MPs. North Hithadhoo MP Mohamed Aslam, as the party’s parliamentary group leader, is leading the efforts to oust Nasheed.

In a text to a The Democrats’ Whatsapp group on Thursday, Nasheed said his response is the same as Bodu Thakurufaanu’s response when Andhiri Andhirin ordered Viyazor to behead him.

Nasheed said that when Viyazor told Bodu Thakurufaanu of Andhiri Andhirin’s orders, Bodu Thakurufaanu responded with the words “the time is nigh to drown, as I cross the Kaashidhoo Sea. When I serve it, I want my head to hold some stature.”

Nasheed said he had the same words for Aslam.

“I, too, say to Aslam, that when I present my head, I want it to hold some stature,” he said.

The no-confidence motion against Nasheed was submitted without the signatures of five MDP MPs; Inguraidhoo MP Hassan Ahmed, Fonadhoo MP Moosa Siraj, Bilehdhoo MP Ahmed Haleem, Central Hithadhoo MP Ahmed Rasheed, and South Kulhudhuffushi MP Jamsheed Mohamed.

The Parliament needs the vote of 44 MPs to pass the motion.
