The main ruling party is the biggest political party in Maldives. According to the Elections Commission, the party has 57,660 members as of February 21.

MDP’s efforts to drive up membership comes after a faction loyal to the party’s leader Mohamed Nasheed broke from the party to form a new political party – The Democrats.
