Maldives Correctional Service has reported they are working on shifting their headquarters, presently based at Ghaazee Building, to Public Service Media’s Radio Building located in Maafannu district.
Corrections’ Spokesperson said services provided presently through its headquarters in Ghaazee Building will shift to the Radio Building once the move is complete. However, till then, the services will continue at Ghaazee Building.
The shift comes after Planning Ministry’s decision to demolish Ghaazee Building for the development of a parking zone.
State Minister for Planning Akram Kamaluddin previously said the decision to demolish Ghaazee Building was prompted by the poor condition of the building, attributed to time, hindering its use.
Akram said demolition works will commence in June while the development of the parking zone will commence soon after.
Lack of parking space in Male’ is a prominent issue. As a result, Huravee Building, previously utilized as a government office complex, had been demolished last year and redeveloped as a parking zone. At the time of demolishment, the building had been worn out beyond use.
A new government office complex was inaugurated recently in Hulhumale’ – under the name Umar Zahir Building.
