Naeema’s death: Manadhoo council shares concerns with Police

The island council of N.Manadhoo met with the senior officers of the atoll Police Station in the island, to share concerns over the lack of arrests made in the murder of Naseema. 

Naeema Moosa, 62, Annaarumaage, N. Manadhoo, who was found dead in her bedroom at around 06:30 pm Friday evening.

Rumors of all sorts have been circulating the island following her death. While it remain uncertain whether the killer is still lose on the island or not, residents are now living in fear. 

Some of the islanders spoke about experiencing mental distress, with some having difficulties in sleeping, staying alone among other issues. 

Speaking with Sun regarding the meeting held with Police, President of the island council Abdul Rahman Sabeeh said that they inquired about the investigation. 

Moreover, discussions were held on how to further monitor the island with the current situation. 

Sabeeh stated that Police revealed that there were already increased number of officers involved in looking after the island. 

In addition to this, he said that while the Police did not share much information pertaining to the case, they said that the investigation was progressing ahead fast, that that they were unable to disclose details at the moment.

A street sweeper employed by the local council, Naeema had lived alone. She had not reported to work and had not been seen for two days, before her family reported her missing at 06:13 pm Friday, prompting a search operation.

The police who went to her home had entered through the backdoor, after finding the front door locked. The police had to break open her bedroom door, which was also locked, and found her lying dead on the floor with multiple stab wounds.

Naeema was buried after the police took forensic samples at 05:20pm on Saturday evening.

Police announced that the case has been ruled as a homicide and has requested anyone who may have information regarding the murder to come forward.  Investigators from the Serious and Organized Crime Department, a team of forensic investigators, and a forensic pathologist are operating in Manadhoo to investigate the case.
